GROUP VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES
There are many group volunteer opportunities at EECM. We are happy to work with your group to find an opportunity that is appropriate to your needs, working with the size of the group and the length of time that you are available. If you are interested in scheduling a group event, please contact Tracy Hudson, Volunteer Coordinator, at 412.362.1389. Thank you for your interest!
Host a Food Drive – If your group is looking for a way to help the hungry, consider hosting a food drive. Invite people to donate non-perishable foods. Check out the EECM Wish List to see what items we need most right now. This could be combined with other volunteer activities at EECM, such as serving a meal at our Soup Kitchen or Men’s Emergency Shelter.
Homeless and Housing Programs – Groups are welcome to help at our weekday Drop-In Center, interacting with guests who are homeless and/or have mental health issues. Other opportunities include bringing breakfast or dinner to the Men’s Emergency Shelter or spending time with guests at the Orr Compassionate Care Center. Groups are also welcome to create their own “special events,” such as a movie night or football game party.
Hunger Programs – Groups are welcome to help during the week with EECM’s hunger programs, including the Soup Kitchen, Food Pantry, and Meals on Wheels. We need help with preparing and serving meals, set-up and clean-up, meal delivery, and sorting donated food.
One-Time Projects – There are many one-time projects that are needed at EECM — such as cleaning, painting, or construction projects. We are especially appreciative if groups are able to provide any materials involved in the project, although this is certainly not a requirement.
Special Events – EECM hosts and helps with many special events during the year, and we are always looking for groups to help. Events include the Martin Luther King, Jr. service, the Love Walk for the Poor, the Have a Heart for Hunger campaign, the Hoop-It-Up basketball tournament, and the Houses of Worship Architectural Tour. Duties might include distributing posters before the event, setting up for the event, helping to direct people and traffic, taking and sorting food donations, helping to serve refreshments, and cleaning up afterwards.
